A duvet is the same thing as a down comforter; in it's simplest form, a cloth bag filled with down and feathers. Or, you can fore go the feathers and insert a blanket.
A quilt is three layers:
1 - A top made from assorted pieces of cloth sewn together at random or in a specific design/pattern. Usually cotton.
2 - A center of batting/wadding. Can be cotton, wool or poly.
3 - A backing of solid cloth, usually cotton.
The three layers are referred to as a "quilt sandwich" and can be held together by tying many small knots with embroidery floss, or decoratively hand or machine stitched....
