Everyone remembers the treasures Howard Carter brought out of King Tut's Tomb. The solid gold mask golden shrines, but what do we really know about these treasures? Most likely the gold is what we remember, but to an artist or historian there is much more. What you see when you look beyond the gold is something amazing. the artistry and craftsmanship that set the ancient Egyptians apart from the rest.
The Greeks and Romans who were also great artist usually get the credit but remember, Egyptian art out-dates both the Greeks and romans by at least two thousand years. Some of the greatest works of art of the ancient world came from the Egyptians around the 18th to the 20th Dynasty's. Just look at some of this art from the golden mask of King Tut (Cairo Museum in Egypt) to the beautiful bust of Queen Nefertiti (Dahlem Museum in Berlin Germany) which is considered one of the greatest works of art of all time.
More of this artwork can still be seen today on the walls of the pharaohs tombs and the walls of the great temples that still stand today. One of these temples is Abu Simbol where Pharaoh Ramses II had four large stone statues of himself built. How such large stone figures could be built with the detail they possess is beyond words.
Even as the paint fades away from a stone relief of an ancient god on a temple wall, one can only imagine what it looked like thousands of years ago with it's bright colors. One has to give respect where it is due, to these skilled artist whose work has stood the test of time and can be seen to this day.

Why would anyone question Zahi Hawass on ancient Eygpt?

Egyptian antiquities supremo Zahi Hawass insisted Tuesday that Tutankhamun was not black despite calls by US black activists to recognise the boy king's dark skin colour.
"Tutankhamun was not black, and the portrayal of ancient Egyptian civilisation as black has no element of truth to it," Hawass told reporters.
"Egyptians are not Arabs and are not Africans despite the fact that Egypt is in Africa," he said, quoted by the official MENA news agency.
Hawass said he was responding to several demonstrations in Philadelphia after a lecture he gave there on September 6 where he defended his theory.
Protestors also claimed images of King Tut were altered to show him with lighter skin at the "Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs" exhibit which leaves Philadelphia for London on September 30.
we aren't arabs and tutankhamon wasn't black, ancient egyptians weren't black, egypt was invaded by the arabs in 640, we then took their language and religion, we are north african, we are not africans, i don't care much for zahi hawas but i don't see here a mistake, egyptian identity is rooted in the lower nile valley, the small strip of cultivatable land stretching from the first cataract to the mediterranean sea and enclosed by vast deserts. we have the longest continuous history of any people, spanning a period of some 7000 years. have spoken only languages from the northern branch of the afro-asiatic family throughout our history, from old egyptian to today's vernacular egyptian arabic. we aren't black and we aren't arab
